皆さんがよく御存知の、オリジナルなヴァージョンはこちらでしょう。画面中央で独り白っぽいジャケットを纏った、グレッグ・オールマン（Gregg Allman）の呵々大笑が印象的なアルバム。メンバーのリラックスした顔々と、後ろに積み上げられた機材群が醸し出す緊張感が好対照を成していて、このバンドにとってのライブのあり方が、ほんわりと感じられる、よい写真です。
僕も学生時代から馴染みのジャケットで、レコード店で見かける度に、インプリンティングされていた作品。にも拘らず、決して、購入意欲の湧かなかった作品です。それは何故かと語ろうとすると、凄まじい時間と体力と労力を要求されそうなので、まぁ、そおゆう時代だったと。

それが20年経過して、新装なったアルバム・カヴァーになった途端に、触手を伸ばしたのは何故か、それも語り出すと、己の浅はかな見栄や欲望や欠乏した金銭感覚に自覚的にならざるを得ないから、こいつもまた割愛。気になる方はメールで問い合わせしてみて下さい。
ただひとつだけ、指摘しておきます。
オリジナル・マスターからリミックスをし直して、収録曲目も収録時間も増えただけでは、普通は、新装ジャケットにして発売はしない筈だ、と。新しい何か、忘れていた何かが加わり、新しい容貌で現れる事を期待したのではないか、そんな思いで購入したのかもしれない。
無表情にこちらを見据える事しかしていない（出来ない）メンバーの顔々を観ていると、LPというフォーマットにパッケージされる前の、よりナマ（＝LIVE）に近い、このコンサートの全貌が把握出来るのではないか、と思ったんだろう、多分。

尤も、純粋に写真作品として観れば、オリジナル・ヴァージョンの方が遥かに優れていて、今回取り上げたカラーのヴァージョンの生硬なメンバーの表情では、没作品となるのもむべなるかな。その後、さらに再発売される場合は、オリジナル・ヴァージョンのものに戻されている様です。
20周年からさらに、10数年経過している訳ですからね？

ps : 本ブログで最も激しいスパム攻撃に曝されているのが「beelzebub / whipping post」な訳だけれども、その元ネタ？が収録されているのが本作品。と、言っても、「whipping post」という曲を知ったのはフランク・ザッパ（Frank Zappa）が『Them or Us』でカヴァーしていたヴァージョンの方が先なんだけれども....
